Anna Jackson is a junior majoring in Astronomy with a minor in Communication, and they’ve just wrapped up their first semester as an ATLAS intern. Recommended to the program by an academic advisor, Anna joined the internship to explore how their communication skills could be applied in a real-world professional setting and to continue growing both creatively and collaboratively. As a Digital Communications Intern for ATLAS, Anna’s role is all about connection and clarity. They create graphics to promote events and services, analyze social media trends using Metasuite, and help prepare weekly presentations. They're also in charge of assigning and writing the spotlight articles, such as the one you're reading now. Hello! Throughout the internship, Anna has picked up new technical tools, including Canva and Google Sheets, while strengthening their graphic design skills. On the soft skills side, they’ve honed their abilities in group work, time management, delegating tasks with coworkers, and communicating openly with team members. One of their biggest takeaways from the experience is that there’s absolutely no shame in asking questions—seeking help is part of how great work gets done. Looking ahead, Anna hopes to pursue a career in public STEM outreach, combining their love for space and their communication background to help others understand the cosmos. And on the creative side? They’re a dedicated artist who uses art commission money to fuel their love for quirky knickknacks—proof that their talents orbit far beyond the stars.
