Abhi Selvam Babu

Say hello to Abhi Selvam Babu, a sophomore majoring in Statistics, who is currently in his second semester as a Data Analyst with the ATLAS Intern Data Team. Encouraged by friends and classmates who had positive experiences in the program, Abhi joined ATLAS to gain practical experience in data analysis, visualization, and data cleaning—skills he knew would be critical in real-world data roles. During his internship, Abhi has contributed to a project aimed at optimizing the number of computers needed in classrooms at the Literatures Cultures and Linguistics Building (LCLB). By analyzing login data that reflects how frequently computers are used, his team provides data-driven recommendations to improve resource efficiency on campus. Technically, Abhi has strengthened his skills in Tableau—one of the leading data visualization platforms—and refined how he uses PowerPoint to clearly present complex findings. On the soft skills front, the internship has helped him become more confident in professional communication and significantly better at managing his time across tasks. A major insight Abhi has taken from his experience is the importance of storytelling with data. Turning raw figures into meaningful, contextual insights that inform decision-making is a skill that extends beyond charts—it requires understanding the bigger picture and conveying it effectively. As for the future, Abhi is exploring career paths but is particularly interested in data analyst roles where he can work with large datasets to uncover insights and improve strategic outcomes. Outside of data, he enjoys thought-provoking films—his all-time favorite is Inception.
