Becca Lucas

Becca Lucas is a junior majoring in Astronomy and Data Science and currently serves as Parliamentarian of Kappa Kappa Psi. Shelearned about the ATLAS Internship Program through departmental emails and newsletters. She chose to join in order to gainexperience in a professional environment and develop effective team communication skills before entering the workforce. This isBecca’s first semester as an ATLAS intern, and she is placed with the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies. In her role as an IT andSocial Media Intern, she has been responsible for designing promotional materials such as flyers highlighting the center’s recentnews, upcoming lecture series, and scholarship and fellowship opportunities.Throughout the internship, Becca has strengthened her graphic design abilities, photo editing skills, and data analysis related toaudience engagement. She has also developed strong communication, time management, and organizational skills. One of her keytakeaways from the experience is learning how to prioritize quality over quantity in her work.Looking ahead, Becca plans to pursue acareer as a Data Scientist. A fun fact about her is that she is a member of the Marching Illini in the trumpet section.
