Byung Lee is a senior majoring in Statistics and Computer Science. He joined the ATLAS Internship Program for its various intern positions and working time’s flexibility, which allowed him to balance the internship with his coursework. The opportunity to work on a project related to Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence was a key motivation for him to apply. As an ML/AI team member under Professor Randy McCarthy, Byung’s responsibilities include attending weekly meetings, delivering presentations, and contributing to a group machine learning project focused on predicting graduation rates using extensive student data. During Byung’s internship, he gained valuable technical skills in machine learning processes such as exploratory data analysis (EDA), encoding, and modeling with Python. He also improved his communication and teamwork abilities by collaborating closely with team members, learning the importance of responsibility, diligence, and effective communication through weekly presentations. After graduation, Byung aims to pursue a career in software engineering, with a focus on roles that integrate AI. A fun fact about him is that he prefers Chicago deep-dish pizza over New York and Detroit-style pizzas.
