Chenghan Tan is a sophomore Mathematics major. He first heard about the ATLAS Internship Program through department emails and newsletters and decided to join because he wanted to obtain transferable skills and utilize data to solve real-world problems through an internship. He also believes the ATLAS Internship Program is a great start to explore career paths, which helps him develop professional skills early in his career journey. Chenghan worked with the ATLAS Data Intern Team as his client. Specifically, he worked as a data analysis intern there, which required him to learn about Tableau, create data visualizations through Tableau, and analyze the career services data. The majority of Chenghan’s work is about translating the statistics into more direct, comprehensive visualizations for his client. Through this internship, Chenghan developed his technical skills, especially Tableau, by conducting various projects. He was able to master Tableau and apply the visualization and data analysis skills to other work. During his work, Chenghan also gained some soft skills, including presentation and time management through the team meetings as well as his daily work routine.Chenghan is now much improved at delivering his ideas professionally and managing workload comprehensively. One of the most important lessons Chenghan learned in his position was that the importance of teamwork and communication is in completing a project. In the future, Chenghan hopes to pursue a career related to data analysis or technology since he is interested in using data and analytical tools to solve real-world problems and help organizations make better decisions. When he has time, he enjoys exploring new places or restaurants, watching movies, and spending time with friends.
