Chloe Smith is a senior majoring in Psychology and heard about the ATLAS internship program through her academic advisor, as well as through department emails and newsletters. She decided to join ATLAS in order to get involved with UIUC while developing professional skills. Chloe found the program as a good fit to gain internship experience and participate in the neuroscience track which aligns with her goals.

Chloe is a Communications Specialist intern working for the Neuroscience Program. She is responsible for the creation of lab pages for staff who currently do not have a designated page written for their labs, and contacting the staff to confirm written descriptions and in regards to any potential changes. She is also tasked with the creation of spotlights for alumni and current staff involved with the Neuroscience Program.

Chloe has developed her technical skills in graphic design and navigation through Drupal during her internship experience. She has also improved her professional communication and time management skills through regular collaboration with faculty and staff in regards to communicating ideas, asking questions, and exchanging feedback. She has also strengthened her self-motivation through her experiences as most of the work was self-directed.

During her experience as an ATLAS intern, Chloe has learned the importance of communication within a team as she often works together with her partner to complete tasks. Asking questions early on, seeking feedback, and taking initiative can greatly improve both work quality and relationships within a team. She also often reached out to her client for questions in order to move forward in the right direction. In her future, Chloe plans to go to graduate school and pursue a master’s in clinical psychology to become a licensed therapist. Chloe enjoys watching the show Love Island and has been watching it every night.
