Chris Peter

Chris Peter is a freshman in the Computer Science & Linguistics major. He knew the ATLAS Internship Program through his friends and decided to join because he wanted to gain more data analytical and visualization skills in a real work environment while also dealing with projects used with data and visualizations. Chris worked with the ATLAS Data Intern Teams as his client. More specifically, he worked as an ATLAS Data intern, which required him to analyze DMI (Division of Management Information) datasets, clean the relevant data, and represent the result visually in Tableau. The majority of Chris’s work is about concluding the patterns of graduation rates at four, five, and six years with options to filter by college and gender. Chris also works on another project, which mainly analyzes the characteristics of career courses at U of I based on a similar project at UNC Chapel Hill. Those projects effectively helped Chris with the technical skills he wanted to develop. Through this internship, Chris also gained experience in effectively presenting his work through weekly presentations to deliver a refined conclusion of his week. He also obtained the ability to manage time effectively by organizing each working task according to its priority. One of the most important lessons Chris learned from the ATLAS internship is that data visualization is a translator, which makes data understandable to the general public, and he practices his sense of getting a better grasp of trends in data at the same time. In the future, Chris plans to pursue a career related to data or artificial intelligence in general. Besides working time, Chris loves to be active by playing badminton with his friends.
