Clarissa Segura is a senior majoring in Communication at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As the President of Amnesty International at UIUC, Clarissa is passionate about advocacy for social justice issues. She uses communication and leadership skills that she has gained in her three semesters in ATLAS as a Digital Communications Specialist to guide her as President of her registered student organization.
Clarissa joined the ATLAS Internship Program after discovering it through departmental newsletters, wanting to gain hands-on experience in the field of digital marketing and content creation. In her role, she has worked on several creative projects, including editing “Meet the Digital Communications Team” videos, photographing ATLAS classrooms to promote faculty resources, and creating intern spotlight features for ATLAS social media channels. Through this internship, Clarissa has strengthened her technical skills in video editing, graphic design, and digital content management using tools such as MetaBusiness Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva. Beyond technical expertise, she has also developed strong presentation and business communication skills by delivering weekly progress reports and collaborating with supervisors and peers.
Reflecting on her experience, Clarissa shares that one key lesson she’ll take away from ATLAS is the importance of strategic content planning, a skill she refined through both hands-on work and LinkedIn Learning courses. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue a career in digital marketing and content creation, continuing to tell compelling stories through media. Aside from her academic and professional pursuits, Clarissa is an avid movie fan, especially of the Scream franchise, which she calls her favorite cinematic series.
