Daniel Ding, a freshman majoring in Math and Computer Science at Illinois, joined the ATLAS Internship Program to gain firsthand insight into the tech industry. As a Full Stack Engineer for a client team based in Egypt, Daniel is a primary developer building an elearning platform from the ground up. His work spans front-end development using Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS, and backend development with Supabase, including database design and API integration. He also co-leads project planning and architecture, creating a three-month roadmap, designing user flows, and translating the client’s educational goals into technical requirements. Additionally, Daniel is developing an AI-assisted workflow using tools like GitHub Copilot and large language models to streamline content creation by generating quiz questions from lesson transcripts. Through this internship, he has gained technical expertise in full-stack development, database management, and DevOps practices, as well as soft skills in cross-functional communication, teamwork, and project planning. One key lesson he learned is the importance of selecting the right tools strategically, such as using Supabase to save time and focus on high-impact features. Looking ahead, Daniel aims to pursue a career in software engineering, specializing in full-stack web development and creating socially impactful, user-focused applications in areas like EdTech or data visualization. Outside of his technical interests, he enjoys exploring math courses, which he considers his favorite classes on campus.
