
Genesis Jara is a senior majoring in English, and minoring in psychology and communication. She has worked as an ATLAS intern for two semesters. She discovered the ATLAS internship program through her academic advisor, and joined to gain professional work experience. She found ATLAS to be a great opportunity to develop her communication and technology skills for her future career.
Genesis works as a Communication intern for the Community Service Center of Northern Champaign County. Her responsibilities include working on social media marketing, as well as composing a summer newsletter. She is also providing feedback to her supervisor and the staff members regarding marketing tactics based on her research and expertise.
Genesis has acquired technical skills involving video editing and captioning, graphic design, and the use of Webtools for mass
communication. She has developed written and oral communication, public speaking, time management, and teamwork skills through her work as an ATLAS intern.
Through her experiences, Genesis has learned the importance of speaking up and asking questions, even if they seem simple. She views the internship as a great learning opportunity for both the supervisors and interns, and believes that knowing when to ask questions is an important part of working in a team. In the future, Genesis plans on applying her skills to become a copywriter or corporate communication specialist. Outside of work, she enjoys walking her cat.
