Hongyang Yu is a junior double majoring in Economics and Mathematics. He joined the ATLAS Internship Program to gain practical experience and apply academic and soft skills to real-world situations.
Hongyang worked as a Data Analyst and Social Media & Coding Lead for the University of Illinois Student Money Management Center. His responsibilities include managing SMMC’s social media platforms, collecting and analyzing post data, and conducting regression analysis to identify trends. He also collaborates with fellow interns to present findings in client meetings.
Through his internship, Hongyang gained technical skills in R, Python, and Tableau, along with soft skills in communication, teamwork, and time management. Despite the remote setup, he learned how to effectively collaborate on projects using Microsoft Teams.
In the future, Hongyang plans to pursue a career in data services as a data analyst or data scientist. In his free time, he enjoys playing Go (Weiqi) with friends and attending Illini football and basketball games.
