Jason Tang, a sophomore majoring in Computer Science & Economics, joined the ATLAS Internship Program to gain hands-onexperience in a structured software engineering environment. After hearing about the program from friends and classmates, Jasonsaw ATLAS as an ideal place to begin his first internship.Working as a Web Development Intern with Professor Osman, Jason is developing a minimum viable product for a website calledItqan Academy. He is responsible for both the front-end and back-end architecture of the site. On the front end, he focuses on userinterface design and interactivity, ensuring the platform is intuitive and visually polished. On the back end, he has built andconfigured database functionality using Supabase and deployed the application through Vercel. He has also developed structuredlesson pages and corresponding practice questions, integrating content with application logic. Through this experience, Jason hasgained technical proficiency in Next.js and CSS,while deepening his understanding of backend systems, deployment workflows, anddatabase integration.Beyond technical growth, Jason has strengthened his professional communication skills through weekly meetings, progress updates, and collaborative planning. One key takeaway from his internship is a new appreciation for the complexity of full-stack development.“When I first started, I underestimated how in-depth building an MVP could be,” he reflects, noting the challenges of initial projectsetup and system integration. Looking ahead, Jason hopes to pursue a career in machine learning or software development, ideallyat the intersection of computer science and economics potentially building economic forecasting models or backend systems fortrading platforms. Outside of coding, you can find him playing basketball at the ARC.
