Introducing Kasey Wang, a senior majoring in Economics and Statistics in her first semester with the program. She initially learned about the ATLAS Internship Program through department emails and newsletters, the career fair, and friends and classmates and decided to join to gain professional experience in machine learning. Kasey is an AI/ML developer on the ATLAS Machine Learning and AI Intern Team. In this role, she is responsible for building a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) document search system using Python, designing a multi-agent large language model system to improve response reliability, and refining prompt engineering strategies to enhance answer accuracy and reduce hallucinations. Through her time in the program, Kasey has developed strong technical skills in machine learning and AI systems, including experience with Python, LangChain, HuggingFace embeddings, and FAISS for vector search. She has built end-to-end retrieval pipelines, implemented multi-agent architectures, and strengthened her ability to evaluate and improve AI-generated responses. In addition, she has gained experience managing codebases and collaborating through Git. She has also strengthened her problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills while working through complex technical challenges and explaining system designs to teammates. From ATLAS, she has learned the importance of focusing on building reliable, well-structured systems, recognizing that strong models alone are not enough without a solid data pipeline and thoughtful system design. After graduation, Kasey hopes to pursue a career in data science or machine learning, with interests in roles such as data scientist, machine learning engineer, or AI engineer. She aims to apply statistical analysis and AI techniques to solve real-world problems and contribute to building intelligent, data-driven systems. Outside of her academic and professional interests, she enjoys exploring different types of food, especially Asian cuisine, and trying out new restaurants across campus with friends!
