Kate Heidelberger is a senior majoring in Sociology and Global Studies. She discovered the ATLAS Internship Program through departmental emails and newsletters and was drawn to its emphasis on learning and exploration. Through her two semesters as an intern, she has had the opportunity to delve into various professional areas, which has significantly shaped her post-graduation career plans.
Kate’s role as a Communications Specialist Strategy Intern for the Student Money Management Center (SMMC) includes writing biweekly newsletters on financial literacy topics tailored to students, parents, and faculty. She also creates social media content to promote SMMC events and resources and conducts research on social media best practices to enhance engagement and audience retention.
Throughout Kate’s internship, she has developed technical skills in Canva, Hootsuite, and Microsoft Office, alongside hands-on experience in social media marketing and graphic design. Previously unfamiliar with these areas, she now feels equipped to consider social media as part of her future career path. Her time at ATLAS has not only expanded her technical skills but has also fueled her interest in public policy.
After graduating, Kate plans to pursue a master’s degree in public affairs, with a focus on international public policy. Beyond her academic and career interests, koalas are her favorite animal.
