Kate Perloff

Kate Perloff is a senior Statistics and Sociology dual major who has been working at ATLAS for one semester. She found out about the opportunity through her academic advisor and decided to join the program due to the opportunities that matched her interest in data analytics and statistics. She believed that the program would help her apply the skills she was learning in her major to a professional setting. Since she has started, Kate became a Data Analyst Intern for the ATLAS Program. As a Data Analyst, she has been looking at ATLAS computer classrooms in the Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics Building and identifying which ones have the least computer usage during class. Her attempted goal for the project is to save money in the classrooms that provide the computers. While working in her semester at ATLAS, Kate has gained several technical and soft skills that will benefit her in the workforce such as Microsoft Suite applications, Tableau, time management, and problem solving. One lesson that Kate has taken away since starting her internship with ATLAS is the importance of efficiently cleaning large and complex datasets, and learning how to analyze them and make data-driven decisions using data analysis and visualizations. This all ties in nicely with her chosen major. For Kate, her goals for future career plans is to pursue a career in Data Analytics or Biostatistics with a focus on public health. When she is not working at a Data Analyst or studying for her majors, she is watching her favorite movie “The Parent Trap”.
