Kelly Wong

Kelly Wong is a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois. She joined to strengthen her professional and personal skills while gaining insight into project workflows, teamwork, and communication in a real-world setting. In her first semester with the ATLAS Internship Program, she is a Communications Specialist for the Illinois Global Institute's Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity. Kelly creates weekly social media graphics using Canva for initiatives like “Women in History Wednesday” and “GRID Student Spotlights.” She also writes and revises platform-specific captions and compiles analytics across platforms—tracking reach, visits, and engagement to inform future content strategy. Her observations on formatting, timing, and design help guide effective outreach. Throughout the ATLAS internship, Kelly has improved her technical skills in Canva and graphic design. She has also developed valuable soft skills, especially in time management and communication. One key takeaway from her experience is the importance of clear and timely communication to keep projects running smoothly and ensure alignment between team members and clients. Looking ahead, Kelly hopes to gain hands-on experience in the food or pharmaceutical industry through internships, volunteering, or part-time work. When she’s not designing graphics or running social media stats, Kelly enjoys digital art, baking, and longdistance running!
