Say "Hello!" to Leah Jacobs, a junior majoring in Psychology and currently in her first semester with the ATLAS Internship Program. She found out about ATLAS through department newsletters and was drawn to the opportunity as a way to challenge herself professionally and strengthen her communication skills in a formal setting. Leah is serving as an Assistant Program Coordinator for the Illinois Data Explorers Committee. Her responsibilities include meeting with the leadership team to brainstorm and schedule future presentations, organizing and leading group meetings, corresponding with potential presenters, and keeping the team informed about upcoming events via email and Teams. Through her internship, Leah has gained technical skills in Microsoft Teams, Webtools (especially for email communication), screen recording, and crafting professional emails. Soft skill highlights include time management, professional communication, and learning to use organizational tools to plan her schedule efficiently. One of the biggest lessons she’s taking from her internship is the value of frequent communication and the importance of asking thoughtful questions to deepen understanding and make progress. Looking ahead, Leah plans to pursue a career in Human Resources or People Consulting, with a focus on improving workplace dynamics and helping organizations thrive. Fun fact: Leah completed her first ATLAS internship semester while studying abroad in Granada, Spain!
