Miracle Alozie is a senior majoring in Communication. She heard about the ATLAS Internship Program at a career fair and joined the program to gain hands-on experience and strengthen her professional and interpersonal skills. She also wanted to build a strong network, exchange ideas with others, and look forward to learning from people with different experiences while sharing her own knowledge and perspectives. Miracle currently serves as a Communication Specialist for BAN.
Her first task in the internship was to research the original Big Ten institutions. She and her teammate divided the schools and researched whether each institution had Black and Latino alumni organizations. They also looked at when each organization was founded, how it operates, and how each organization engages with students, faculty, and alumni. Her second task was to review the BAN website and recommend ways to improve it for students, alumni, and visitors, suggesting changes to make the website easier to use and more engaging. The third task she completed was creating a blurb card and flyer for BAN's bowling mixer to promote the event that BAN will host with UIUC, UIC, and UIS.
Through her internship, the technical skills she has gained include becoming more familiar with Canva and using its design tools more effectively. She has also strengthened her website research skills and improved her ability to create professional designs. Furthermore, Miracle has strengthened her communication skills by staying in contact with her supervisor and teammate through text messages and meeting on Zoom for regular check-ins. This experience has helped her improve her professional communication, teamwork, and ability to balance her personal life with her internship responsibilities.
Miracle's future plans are to get her master's degree in health communication, while still building her professional skills in different areas of communication like creative writing. A fun fact about Miracle is that she likes writing poetry!
