Nicolas Bless is a senior communication major who’s been part of the ATLAS Internship Program for three semesters. He discovered the opportunity through the Department of Communication’s internships and careers Canvas page and saw it as the perfect introduction to a professional work environment. He returned each semester to demonstrate his commitment, gain experience, and align his work with his long-term career goals. At ATLAS, Nicolas worked on the Communications Team as a Digital Communications Intern. He also served as Newsletter Lead, managing the ATLAS monthly newsletter—gathering content from staff, writing articles, building the newsletter online, and overseeing revisions. He also wrote intern spotlight articles for the ATLAS website, collaborated on social media graphics and captions, and worked with College of LAS staff on communications projects. These responsibilities helped Nicolas sharpen key professional skills. As Newsletter Lead, he developed project management experience and learned how to guide a project from start to finish. Regular communication with supervisors and collaborators helped him grow as a professional communicator, both in writing and in conversation. He also gained experience in time management, research, and interpreting data from online engagement. His biggest takeaway from the experience is that effective communication is the foundation of any successful workplace. Looking ahead, Nicolas hopes to pursue a role in digital or strategic communication—helping foster more collaborative, productive work environments. On the side, he’s even been studying Japanese and is excited to put his skills to the test on a trip to Japan after graduation. Good luck, me!
