This promising student is Qiyang Liu, a freshman Math & Computer Science major. This is his first semester at ATLAS. He learned about the opportunity through his academic advisor, department emails, and classmates—and quickly saw it as a chance to apply what he’s learning in class to real-world projects. He also aimed to grow professionally, especially in communication and collaboration. Qiyang is working in ATLAS on the VR Team as an Emerging Technology Events Coordinator. His role took him across campus to scout locations equipped with televisions capable of running VR programs. He was also tasked with researching available VR applications and testing them on headsets. To improve the user experience, he invited fellow interns to try out the programs and offer feedback. Through this role, Qiyang gained practical experience operating VR hardware and software, learning how to manage devices and troubleshoot in real time. He also met his personal goals—sharpening his professional communication, improving his time management, and becoming a more effective team player. The biggest takeaway Qiyang has learned through his internship is the importance of planning ahead and staying on top of communication to keep things running smoothly. In the future, he plans to find a career in software development. He does hope, however, to still be able to find the time to go back to Yogi and eat their marinated pork rice.
