Ruohan Pan is a freshman Sociology major completing her first semester at ATLAS. Department emails and newsletters were how she first heard about the program, and she decided to join to gain work experience as well as apply the technology concepts she had learned in class to real life. Ruohan is placed at the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies as an IT and Social Media Intern. The tasks she performs include executing creative social media strategies, content creation, web content management, and graphic design. She coordinates campaigns while monitoring social media performance. Additionally, she collaborates with cross-functional teams to align digital strategies with organizational goals and promote copartnership between organizations. Her work has helped Ruohan develop a variety of skills, including graphic design, website management, social media management, and public relations. She also made use of the Webtools application and all its functions to support her work. Soft skills like professional communication and time management developed as well through performing all her duties. One lesson that Ruohan will take away from the program is that she was able to shift away from the student mindset and develop greater professionalism. She realized that while things aren’t presented on a silver platter in a work environment, there is also greater freedom and trust. She learned how to take initiative, stay proactive, and provide clients with thoughtful suggestions. Taking what she’s learned into the future, Ruohan aims to pursue a career that integrates data analysis with social work and consulting. And in her own time, she enjoys exploring all kinds of sports to find one she fits with best.
