Ruohan Pan is a sophomore majoring in Statistics and has been an ATLAS intern for two semesters. She learned about the ATLAS internship program through department emails and newsletters. Ruohan decided to join ATLAS because she saw that the program offers a rare opportunity to apply data skills to real-world projects using real data while working alongside a collaborative team.
Ruohan is a Data Analyst intern on the ATLAS Data Team. Her responsibilities include creating dashboards and charts using Tableau, working with campus databases such as the Division of Management Information and the Data Services Center, and conducting analyses on campus datasets, which involves data preprocessing, cleaning, and visualization.
Ruohan has developed her technical skills in Tableau, dataset management, and data visualization. She has also strengthened her soft skills in collaboration, presenting weekly progress reports, and identifying meaningful questions within messy datasets.
Through her experience as an ATLAS intern, Ruohan has learned that real-world data is often much messier than the data used in classroom settings. Managing data preprocessing, transformation, and cleaning to produce clear, usable formats is a crucial skill in data analysis. In the future, Ruohan plans to pursue a career where she can apply her data skills in corporate settings, such as data-driven business consulting or risk management. Lately, her favorite pastime has been Latin dancing.
