Sathvik Ram Lanka

A junior majoring in Statistics & Computer Science, Sathvik Ram Lanka joined the ATLAS Internship Program after learning about it through department communications and peers. As an ATLAS VR Team Intern, Sathvik is contributing to projects that blend creativity, programming, and immersive technology.

Sathvik’s primary focus is a virtual simulation of the Main Quad, where his team is developing carnival-style games that allow users to experience the space in an interactive environment. He has worked on refining and debugging games built by previous interns while also designing his own archery-style game from the ground up. In addition to the Quad Games project, he supports Illinois' PointVR initiative by identifying and resolving software bugs. Through this work, Sathvik has developed technical proficiency in C#, the Unity game engine, GitHub Desktop, and Oculus/Meta VR software, all core tools in contemporary virtual reality development.

Beyond technical advancement, Sathvik has strengthened his communication and teamwork skills within a professional project workflow. He has learned to deliver concise presentations and manage time strategically to ensure his work aligns with team objectives. One of his key takeaways from the internship is the importance of coordinating responsibilities thoughtfully so progress benefits the group as a whole. Looking ahead, Sathvik plans to further explore career specializations in artificial intelligence and data analysis. Outside of VR development, he has recently taken up baking and successfully made his first bundt cake!
