Shreya Rana, a junior studying Brain and Cognitive Science, found out about the ATLAS Internship Program through her friends and classmates. She thought that it would make for a good introductory internship experience. Shreya’s client was the Neuroscience Program at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where she worked as a Communication Specialist. Her responsibilities included managing the “NeuroWeek” newsletter, writing Faculty Spotlights to be posted on the Beckman website, and updating the Neuroscience website’s calendar. Shreya in order to do her work had to learn and gain proficiency in Webtools, an in-house web-based application that allows for a variety of features at the University of Illinois. As for her soft skills, Shreya had to learn more about communication and time management to properly get her work done. Another aspect of her work that Shreya will carry with her in her future is that she had to learn to properly network with others. She had to connect with many professors on campus in order to fulfill her duties to gather information for the Neuroscience website. Shreya’s future has the potential to lead her down many paths, but for now she has her eyes set on either going to graduate school to further her proficiency in her field, or join the workforce in an industry job. Whatever come to pass, Shreya will continue to love her favorite movie, Phantom Thread.
