Introducing Sydney Tate, a junior studying Political Science and History at the University of Illinois. She is also the public relations director for Illinois Global Review and the finance director for Global Empowerment for Women's Medical Support. Sydney first learned about ATLAS through an academic advisor, and this is Sydney’s second semester at ATLAS. She believed that the ATLAS Internship Program could continuously provide professional experience for her to develop more transferable skills.
As an assistant program coordinator trainee in the Data Explorers group, Sydney worked on communicating with the leadership team, finding leads for the data explorer’s presentation, and conducting meetings and further research for the leads as well.
Sydney gained proficiency in a wide range of technical skills, especially the Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Besides these technical skills, Sydney also developed her communication, time management, and organization skills through various experiences and dedicated effort. She also had better presentation skills through weekly meetings.
Sydney’s most significant takeaway from the experience was to always remember to ask for help whenever you need it because you never know when a situation might require support from others.
Looking ahead, Sydney aims to earn a JD or MBA degree as she dreams of attending law school, and she believes that this combination will greatly enhance her career prospects while allowing her to develop a comprehensive understanding of both legal and business principles. A fun fact about Sydney is that she really enjoys the activity of ice skating.
