Tom Rose

Tom Rose is a senior majoring in Creative Writing currently in his second semester with the ATLAS Internship Program. He first heard about the opportunity through department emails and newsletters and was drawn to the chance to pick up some businessrelated skills while gaining professional experience. Tom works as a Client Relations Manager for the ATLAS Internship Program. His responsibilities include reaching out to potential new clients and tailoring outreach messages to specific leads. He’s also collaborating with two fellow interns to create a Client Feedback Form that will help gather insight on current partnerships. In addition, he’s reviewing the program’s client list to identify long-term relationships that could be honored, potentially in partnership with the Communications team. On the technical side, Tom has expanded his skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams, and has also worked with Webtools, U of I's in-house communication system full of various tools. Through his time in the internship, he’s continued developing soft skills like time management, self-discipline, and public speaking. One major takeaway for him has been the importance of asking for help— catching problems early and talking through challenges with others helps reduce stress and lead to better outcomes. Looking ahead, Tom hopes to find a job where he can put his creative writing skills to good use, while also continuing to write his own stories on the side. A fun fact about Tom is that he’s a fan of horror fiction and dreams of writing his own entries in the genre someday.
