Toshiyuki Funaki

Meet Toshiyuki Funaki, a sophomore studying Linguistics in his first semester here at ATLAS. Having heard about the program from department newsletters and emails, Toshiyuki decided to join ATLAS to prepare himself for his future in the workplace. Toshiyuki is helping Earnest Agriculture as a Digital Marketing Intern this semester. To help write a video script on agriculture, he has had to do research on the subject as well as learn how to write in accordance with Earnest Agriculture’s style. Along with his research on agriculture, he also looks into the social media accounts of others in the field to find trends that he could implement into the strategy for his client. The work Toshiyuki does has him learning all kinds of communication and management tools, like WhatsApp, Notion, Google Suite, and Buffer. He has also increased his personal skills in time management and presentation, as well as effective communication with his teammates and clients. Toshiyuki’s biggest takeaway from the experience is that every team has its own way of doing things and that it’s important to always be adaptable to the situation. In his case, he had to learn the communication strategies of his client and team and adapt from what he previously knew. In the future, Toshiyuki plans to sign up for more internships to grow even more, with his eyes set on joining the workforce soon after graduating. Meanwhile, in his personal life, he’s a big fan of the Japanese anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
