Victor Liu

Introducing Victor Liu, a junior studying Astronomy + Data Science at the University of Illinois. This is Victor’s first semester at ATLAS, but he has already found it incredibly rewarding. He first learned about ATLAS through an academic advisor. He saw it as an incredible opportunity to gain experience in a professional setting and apply his knowledge to real-world challenges.

As a programmer intern in the ATLAS LMS group, Victor worked on creating an archery game for the ATLAS QuadGames, building the task for PointVR, and testing for bugs in previous projects from the team. He participated in programming various projects that involved the usage of C#, Unity, and GitHub, further expanding his technical skills. Through his internship, Victor also gained deeper insight into communication, presentation, and collaboration skills through daily work tasks and some group meetings.

Victor’s biggest takeaway from the experience was that the value you get out of your internship depends on how much work you put into it. During his internship, Victor has contributed much time and effort not only to completing the basic work duty but also to developing any skills for expanding his capabilities in a real working environment.

Looking ahead, Victor aims to enter graduate school and look for internships related to data science or analysis simultaneously, where he can further improve his knowledge in the specific field he is interested in. In his leisure time, Victor enjoys folding origami.
