William Kulwin

Meet William Kulwin, a freshman majoring in Statistics and currently in his second semester as an ATLAS intern. William began his journey as an IT Specialist after discovering the program at a career fair. Now, he’s continuing with ATLAS in a new role—as a Web Development intern. While he gained valuable hands-on experience during his initial placement, he chose to switch tracks to deepen his technical skills and align more closely with his future goals. In his current role, William helps archive the published monthly ATLAS newsletters and uploads completed Intern Spotlight articles that showcase interns to the ATLAS website. Additionally, he works to redesign the ATLAS website to be more accessible and presentable. This semester, William has been learning how to construct key technical frameworks using WordPress and Drupal—two widely used website management systems—expanding his capabilities in web development. He’s also strengthened his communication and presentation skills through his work with his teammates and coordinating with his supervisors. William’s biggest takeaway from the internship is to always advocate for yourself and ask for help when you need it. He’s found that reaching out when things aren’t working is the best way to stay on track and keep the work moving forward. Looking ahead, William plans to pursue graduate school with hopes of becoming a data scientist. And when he’s not focused on his studies or internship, you’ll likely find him refining his skills in chess.
