
William Kulwin is a sophomore majoring in statistics, and he has spent three semesters as an ATLAS intern. He had found out about the ATLAS internship program through a career fair and decided to join in order to gain valuable work experience that he could apply to his future career. He planned to gain programming experience relevant to the field of data science during his internship. William’s responsibilities as an AI/ML intern for ATLAS include utilizing an LLM to associate themes with the research of UIUC professors automatically. He is also tasked with presenting the data obtained to LAS to expand this proof of concept and to automate this process for Illinois Experts. Through his ATLAS internship, he has developed his programming skills in Python and created ML models. He has also gained valuable experience related to working with LLMs. In addition, William has learned a great deal about teamwork and collaboration through his experiences working together with a colleague to complete a project successfully. William has learned the importance of asking for help whenever he needs it from his ATLAS internship. In the future, he plans to pursue a career as a data scientist. During his free time, he enjoys playing chess.
