Xinhang Li

Xinhang Li is a sophomore majoring in Economics. She heard about the ATLAS Internship Program through her friends and classmates. Xinhang decided to join the program to gain practical experience in web development and website management, wanting to learn tools like WordPress and Drupal, improve her technical skills, and contribute to real university websites while working with a supportive team. Having been in the program for two semesters, she is currently a Web developer working with her client, Professor Michelle Rome. Her primary responsibilities include building and managing websites using both the University-hosted WordPress platform and a self-hosted cPanel WordPress installation. She also evaluates and improves website accessibility using tools such as WAVE, axe DevTools, and Lighthouse, and works on maintaining and optimizing ATLAS websites in Drupal by reviewing Student Spotlight pages, checking for broken links, and researching SEO strategies.

Through her internship, Xinhang gained hands-on experience with WordPress and Drupal content management systems, learning how to build and maintain websites, organize and update web content, and customize site navigation. She developed her skills in website accessibility testing and learned the fundamentals of SEO, including meta descriptions, headings, image alt text, and strategies for improving search visibility. Her internship also strengthened her communication, teamwork, and time management skills as she learned how to collaborate with teammates on shared projects, participate in weekly meetings, and present progress updates.

Xinhang hopes to pursue a career that combines data analysis, technology, and problem-solving. A fun fact about Xinhang is that she has been to 15 countries!
