Yuxin Liu is a junior, majoring in Econometrics & Quantitative Economics at the University of Illinois. Yuxin joined to gain handson experience during the academic year that could support her future career in data analysis or data science. In her first semester with the ATLAS Internship Program, Yuxin has been working as a Data Intern. She has worked on several impactful projects. She created interactive Tableau dashboards, including a global student density map and visual breakdowns of degree programs and gender. Her Tableau Story project visualized trends in birth year, academic colleges, race, and enrollment— both domestic and international—to tell a more comprehensive story about student demographics. Additionally, she analyzed classroom computer usage data by cleaning and restructuring datasets. Through her internship with ATLAS, Yuxin has strengthened her technical skills in data visualization using Tableau and expanded her proficiency with Python. She’s also improved her presentation skills by communicating her findings to both peers and mentors. One key lesson she’s learned is the importance of early and clear communication with teammates, especially when collaborating on shared projects. Looking ahead, Yuxin plans to pursue additional internships in data analysis or data science and is considering applying to a master’s program after graduation. A fun fact about Yuxin is that she always prefers hot water over iced beverages!
