Zhenmin Dai, a junior majoring in Mathematics and Statistics, joined the ATLAS Internship Program to explore the world of web development and gain experience aligned with her future career goals. She heard of the opportunity through her department's newsletters and emails. This is her first semester in the program, where she’s currently working as a Web Development Intern under the mentorship of Client Michelle. In her role, Zhenmin has worked on both personal and professional websites—creating an online portfolio that showcases her projects, habits, and academic journey, while also assisting professors with building or enhancing their own sites to highlight research and personal profiles. A key part of her work has also involved improving web accessibility, using specialized tools to test and refine websites to meet inclusivity standards. Through this experience, Zhenmin has become confident in using WordPress for designing user-friendly websites, integrating widgets and buttons, and applying accessibility best practices. Just as important, she’s developed soft skills that will serve her far beyond the internship—such as time management, presenting her work clearly, and communicating effectively with others. Reflecting on her experience, Zhenmin shares that learning to think more critically and remain adaptable were some of the most valuable takeaways. Whether building websites or solving technical challenges, flexibility and collaboration were key to her success. Looking towards her future career, Zhenmin hopes to pursue a path as a data analyst or data scientist, where she can blend her analytical background with her growing technical toolkit. A little fun fact to boot is her favorite fruit is the avocado!
