The College of LAS is committed to supporting instructors in developing high-quality online courses. Whether you are creating a new course or updating an existing one, the ATLAS Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) team and the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) are here to help.
Support is available for all LAS online courses—whether or not they pursue LAS Online Certification.
What ATLAS Offers
ATLAS provides a wide range of resources to support online course development and redevelopment. Examples include:
- Multimedia production, including accessible video recording with transcripts and professional audio
- Instructional design consultation and training on educational technologies (Canvas, Moodle, Zoom)
- Guidance on assessments, accessibility, and copyright compliance
- Assistance updating syllabi and course materials to meet LAS standards
- Stipends to recognize the extra effort required for course development work
Why Consider Certification?
While certification is not required, many instructors choose to pursue LAS Online Course Certification for an undergraduate course because it:
- Ensures course meet LAS standards for accessibility, pedagogy, and compliance
- Provides benefits for students (clear structure, easier navigation)
- Reduces instructor workload by streamlining course organization
- Unlocks financial incentives for departments through revenue sharing in summer and winter terms
Proposal Process
LAS instructors may submit proposals for course development projects. While all proposals are welcome, priority is given to:
- Courses with strong enrollment potential and demonstrated student demand
- Courses required for majors and programs
- Courses that fulfill General Education requirements
To receive full consideration, please submit proposals by:
- Fall: Friday, October 17, 2025
- Spring: Friday, March 13, 2026
Please allow at least four weeks after submission for review, prioritization, and follow-up.
What to Expect After Submission
If your proposal is selected, ATLAS TLT will reach out to schedule a consultation with you and CITL. Together, we’ll create a customized production schedule based on your goals, needs, and course launch timeline.
Following this consultation, ATLAS and CITL will prepare the necessary documentation (e.g., Intellectual Property Rights Letter, Document of Shared Understanding). Once complete, course development work begins.
