What is Moodle?

Moodle offers a digital learning environment for face-to-face, blended, and online classes that is innovative, reliable, secure, and scalable, and integrates tools from third-party providers. We can consult with instructors on how to leverage the service for classes in all modalities.

Accessing Moodle

The web address to access the Learn@Illinois Moodle service is https://learn.illinois.edu. Instructors can request their course site(s) at https://courserequest.learn.illinois.edu/ (this link is also available at the service's website).

Learn to Use Moodle

Please join us in our workshops or contact us at atlas-tlt@illinois.edu to set up a consultation. To access our help documents for instructors and students please visit the Learn@Illinois informational website.

Support

Have Moodle questions or issues you need assistance with? Email atlas-tlt@illinois.edu.

Advisory Group

The group brings together Moodle users and stakeholders including faculty, students, and staff that use or plan to use Moodle to discuss issues, future directions, and to provide input to ATLAS to increase the alignment of the service with current and actual or anticipated needs. Areas of input typically include accessibility, upgrades, enhancements, interface design, guidelines and policies, and service downtimes. Members can get early access to new releases to preview and test new functionality. The group meets once or twice a semester or as needed. You can submit this self-nomination form to join.

Requesting New Features, Tools, and Integrations in Moodle

We welcome requests from our faculty and students for improvements to Moodle such as the development of new features as well as external tool integrations. Integrations are typically in the form of tools that follow the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) specification (e.g., Zoom LTI or Kaltura LTI) and plug-ins.

Our team evaluates requests based on a set of criteria that include:

  • compliance with federal and state laws (e.g., FERPA) as well as campus policies (e.g., accessibility)
  • compatibility with our Moodle environment
  • cost
  • support implications

We may ask requestors to help us test the tool to ensure that it will meet needs and works as expected.

This process can take time (6 months or more) because of the time it takes to evaluate and the other considerations listed above so please contact us as soon as possible.

Please submit your request and our team will work with you.
