Junior ​​​​​​Yuanning Wei is a second semester ATLAS intern majoring in statistics. She had heard of ATLAS through an email sent to her by her adviser. In her first semester, she worked for the Student Money Management Center (SMMC) as a Data Analyst. She took data from surveys on a refund project and compiled data that checked how much students knew about their financial options. Currently, she still works at the SMMC; however, she now analyzes the backgrounds of international students, including their financial background and demographics. She uses Excel and R Studio to perform her tasks. She also checks to see if there is a correlation between the international students’ background and majors with how much tuition is payed or how they are paying for their tuition. Through her ATLAS internship, she has realized the flexibility of the work place and developed several technical skills. She would like to get into data analysis as a career, and says her internship is definitely preparing her for the workload and intensity of the job.
